Question: How and why does detective hoffman become jigsaw's new apprentice?

I got confused on saw 4 on how and why did Hoffman become Jigsaw's new apprentice. Please can u explain to me

Det. Hoffman's sister was murdered by her abusive boyfriend, Seth Baxter, and in a fit of rage, Hoffman murdered Baxter and pinned it up as a Jigsaw case. Angered by Hoffman's inferior work, John Kramer (aka Jigsaw) tracks the detective down and confronts him about his mistake. Once Hoffman accepts Jigsaw's ways, he becomes Jigsaw's second apprentice, behind Amanda Young. But Amanda went rogue, and with help from a drug dealer named Cecil, she ruined Kramer's chance's of having a baby with his wife, Jill Tuck. This led Kramer to nearly go insane, so Hoffman found a clever way of picking off Amanda. This leaves Hoffman as Jigsaw's last true apprentice, until Jigsaw enlists his wife Jill to continue his legacy in the latest film.

Detective Hoffman becomes Jigsaw's new apprentice in the fourth installment. Technically he becomes the new apprentice in the thrid installment since the thrid and fourth coincide. But if you haven't seen the movies it's the fourth. The reason he becomes apprentice is explained further in detail in the 5th installment, but it's along the lines of how Hoffman kills the murderer of his sister by faking a jigsaw murder.

He frames jig saw for the murder of the guy who killed hoffman's sister who hoffman actually killed himself. jigsaw finds out, blackmails him, and then since he saw how hoffman killed his sisters murderer he sees he has taalent and trains hoffman into being his apprentice by picking his brain
